2014 Annual Tea

The Monroeton United Methodist Women held their annual "September Tea" on September 10.
Our theme was the "Fabulous Fifties."
The church basement was turned into a soda shop with records and streamers hanging, a juke box and giant sodas.
A display table was adorned with hats, gloves, purses, photos and many items from that era.
Forty-seven ladies from area churches, many in fifties attire, enjoyed a delicious luncheon.
The beautiful teacups and teapots that were used were on loan to us by Ruth Wohlgemuth.
Everyone took turns reminiscing about what they could remember from the fifties.

For our program, hostess, Lois McPherson, took us back to some of the TV shows that were popular.
We started with our own Mickey Mouse Club, then Sue Dunn took us through 1950-1959 with the winning song and movie of each year on "Your Hit Parade" assisted by Darla Morse.
Our version of Gunsmoke was a "Western Tale" starring Loraine Cummings as Matt Dillon, Diana Haverly as Festus and Delores Crane as Miss Kitty.
As a heavenly choir of nuns, we sang, "I Will Follow Him."

We did our own version of commercials:
"Which Twin Has the Toni" with Bev Barton and Dorothy Titchen
"Shake and Bake" with Delores Crane and Darla Morse
"See the USA in your Chevrolet" with Sue Dunn.

Interesting items of the '50's was read by Dorothy Titchen.

The highlight of the day was our guest performers – Kathy Hammerly and Sue Layman, who had everyone singing songs of the fifties.

The door prize, a beautiful Poodle afghan, made by Mary Chase, was won by Marty Vincent.

A collection was taken for Grace Connection and we all sang "Let There Be Peace on Earth. "

Our day was ended with the Mickey Mouse Club. In all, it was a great day, we appreciate all who attended and look forward to next year!
